Mountain Gorillas In Rwanda

Rwanda Gorilla Population

The mountain gorilla is one of the world's most endangered species. During the Rwandan genocide in 1994, the gorillas' human security was gone so they were under threat of poachers which reduced them in number because they were 700 according to the 2002 census .Due to lack of peace and freedom, they also weren't having children due to the genocide but according to the census of April 22 2008, the number was 260 mountain gorillas inside Rwanda, and their numbers are increasing.
Mountain gorilla population left in the World has enabled the country to receive over 20,000 visitors every year visiting the creatures which share more than 97% genetic material with human beings.
According to UNESCO World Heritage Site identified that Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park has more than half of the global population of an estimated population of 780 Mountain Gorillas(there are 780 in the wold approx. here). Located in south-western Uganda bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo, this boasts over 326 Mountain Gorillas, the largest and rarest of all ape specie

Tips to simplify the tracking is to learn the following and follow a right route

Usually trekking period depends on where the gorillas are like during the rainy season, Gorillas come in from the lower slopes and during the dry season, they tend to go higher up the slopes but all groups are accessible to all tourists who track.

NOTE: The Amahoro Group is more demanding compared to Group 13 and Sabyinyo though it’s the easiest to track. The group is found in gentle slopes of mountain Sabyinyo and Gahinga while Group 13 is found in the saddle of mountain Sabyinyo but hard to reach compared to Susa and Amahoro.

The Susa group can sometimes be very hard to trek especially when they migrate to the higher altitudes but the current customers have visited this group easily and finished earlier than the others. However the group is found in the slopes of Mountain Karisimbi.
