Virunga Lodge is a comfortable eco-lodge located on a hillside overlooking the Virunga Volcanoes and Lakes Ruhondo and Bulera. 360 degree breathtaking views make this one of the top lodge destinations in Africa.

Eight bandas with private verandas offer views over the lakes and volcanoes; open fire places in the lounge and dining room are a warm welcome after a day tracking the mountain gorillas. Other activities include visiting Dian Fossey’s grave and tracking the golden monkeys. Accommodation & Facilities: The 8 spacious bandas, all decorated with simple furniture and hardwood floors, each have a private veranda to enjoy the spectacular sights and sounds of the area, overlooking volcanoes or lakes.

The entire lodge is up to environmentally friendly standards, using local fabrics and grass mats. The main building has a cosy lounge with a fireplace and a sociable dining area with a well stocked bar.

Dining: Wake up calls come with a tea or coffee in the morning, much appreciated when you have an early start! 3 meals will usually be served through out the day, including a packed lunch and a three course dinner. The dining area encourages guests to interact and share the day’s stories around the large dining table. There is an “indore” dance troop that performs regularly to keep guests entertained.

Activities: As well as tracking gorillas, guests can also track golden monkeys, climb a volcano, hike to the waterfalls or walk to the local village. There is also the opportunity to visit a local school or community project if you so wish.

Child Policy: Children welcome, however under 16’s cannot track gorillas.
