How to Secure & Book Gorilla Permits in Rwanda

Gorilla permits are required for every visitor intending to visit the mountain gorillas in Rwanda, Uganda or the Democratic Republic of Congo. However there is limited number of permits are available in each gorilla park; eight visitors are allowed to watch the mountain gorillas a day and thus only eight gorilla permits are available. Within Rwanda, there are only ten habituated gorilla permits available for gorilla trekking and thus only 80 permits can take a gorilla trek with every eight visitors tracking the endangered mountain gorillas from different locations.

Given that there are a few gorilla permits, it is essential to book permits well in advance. During the peak season, it is advisable to book very early enough given that the permits are sold out on first come, first serve! During the time of booking your gorilla safari, visitors need to pay the gorilla permit fees early enough as long as availability is confirmed so that they can be purchased immediately. Delay in payment can result in permits not being secured.

  • Gorilla permits are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis
  • The fees for gorilla permits are USD750 per person for Rwanda, USD600 per person for Uganda and USD450 for Congo.
  • Though there are a few gorilla permits in peak season, you can check for last minute availability with us.
