Do you love primates? This 4 Days Safari in Rwanda combines gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes National Park and chimpanzee tracking in the Nyungwe Forest National Park. The Volcanoes national park is home to nearly a third of the total remaining population of the mountain gorillas in the world, while Nyungwe Forest National Park is one of the few remnant tropical rain forests, home to about 13 primates species.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival – Parc Nationale Des Volcanoes.

On arrival you will be picked up by our tour guide from the Kigali International Airport. Our guide will drive you to Parc Nationale des Volcanoes (PNV) home to the enadnegred mountain gorillas. Located in the Northern part of Rwanda, Ruhengeri is about a 2 hours drive from Kigali. The drive takes you past green farms, rural countryside and scenic places. Dinner and overnight at the lodge

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After an early breakfast, our guide will drive you to the park headquarters where you will get briefed about the activity of the day – gorilla tracking. After getting allocated to a gorilla group you are to hike, start off the trek guided by the ranger guides. The time spent on the search of mountain Gorillas is unpredictable. Be ready for hikes that can be quite tough moving past hills and valleys. Normally the trek takes approximately 2-8 hours . After the trek, embark on a journey to Nyungwe forest, located in Southwestern Rwanda. Coveringover 1,000 square kilometers, Nyungwe is the largest Afro-montane forest in East and Central Africa and one of the most ancient dating back to before the last Ice Age. The park is home to 13 primates species. Dinner and Overnight at the lodge

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking safari.

After breakfast go for chimp trekking within the Nyungwe Forest. During the trek you may spot other primates like the Colobus monkeys. Nyungwe is also botanist’s paradise with over 140 species of wild orchids and 250 types of trees, as well as many species of ferns. The trek takes you for a close eye to eye encounter with chimpanzees, man’s closest cousins After lunch relax at the lodge. Dinner and overnight as above.

Day 4: Departure

After breakfast, transfer back to Kigali. You may do a Kigali city tour including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial site. Enroute visit to the cultural museum in Butare and a tea plantation to learn about agritourism in Rwanda. After the city tour, transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
