Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival – Kigali City Tour
Meet and greet at Kigali Airport by our tour guide. Take a brief city tour of Kigali City starting with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial site.
After the brief tour, transfer to Ruhengeri, the fourth largest town in Rwanda, with its stunning backdrop of three volcanic mountains.  Overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge

Day 2: Gorilla Trek in Volcanoes National Park
The day starts with an early breakfast at the lodge. Our guide will drive you to Kinigi, home to Volcanoes National Park Offices, where you are to get briefed about gorilla tracking. After getting briefed and assigned to a particular group, start off your trek, guided by local tour guides and rangers. The time for the trek is unpredictable. Experience shows that the trip takes from a mere hike of 1 hour to a full day hike within the forest. upon meeting the mountain gorillas, you have up to one hour to watch them in the wild. In the afternoon take a guided local community tour and experience the culture of the people of Rwanda. OR visit the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, a Non-Profit umbrella organization that aims at improving the lives of reformed poachers and communities around Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. Day 3: 2nd Gorilla Trek in Volcanoes National Park
Early in the morning, our guide will transfer you to Kinigi for another trek to the  gorillas. This time you will track a different gorilla group. Enjoy your second gorilla trek. After lunch, take an excursion to the twin lakes – Burera and Ruhondo.  The twin lakes area is very scenic, with steep and intensively farmed hills surrounding the pristine dark blue waters. They offer magnificent views over the whole of the Virunga Volcanoes (weather permitting). Overnight at  Mountain Gorilla View Lodge

Day 4: Golden Monkey Tracking & Transfer to Lake Kivu
This morning you participate in another adventure tracking the “Little Primates” of the Virungas, the Golden Monkey (Cercopithecus Kandti), now listed by the IUCN as endangered because of their small numbers. You will be part of a select group of a maximum of 6 people. After the trek, travel to Gisenyi  for a relaxing evening at the lake. Take a tour to the neighbouring local communities. Enjoy sightseeing – looking at the pristine scenery, bird species and other local activities such as fishing. Dinner and overnight stay at Serena Lake Kivu

Day 5: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest
After breakfast, depart for Nyungwe Forest National Park, reaching in Nyanza in the evening.  (I would suggest a morning boat ride – most clients don’t like missing it – but i will take your decision).  In the afternoon take a local community tour OR take a nature walk to the waterfalls within the forest (4 hours hike). Dinner and overnight stay at Nyungwe Forest Lodge

Day 6: Chimpanzee Tracking & Canopy Walk
After breakfast, you will set out for the chimp trek in this rain forest. You will first report to the Park headquarters for briefing from the Park rangers and then start your trek into the Forest in search for the chimpanzees. You will have the opportunity to see Chimpanzees. There are other primates within the forest including the Rwenzori colobus, L’hoests monkey, the Silver monkey, Owl faced monkey and the Grey cheeked Mangabey and more. In the afternoon, take a canopy walk within the Nyungwe Forest, an adventure that offers great sightseeing over the forest. Day 7: Return to Kigali
After a morning breakfast, you will depart Nyungwe Forest National Park for Kigali. En route you will visit the Murambi Genocide Memorial Centre in southern Rwanda, one of the site of a massacre during the 1994 Rwandan genocide. You will reach Kigali late in the evening.
